Most patients are treated with heat-based ablation using radiofrequency (RF) catheters, but this procedure has some risk of complications, such as esophageal injury. Cryoablation helps physicians avoid these risks by using cold instead of heat to disable abnormal heart tissue. Catheter ablation is a procedure used to remove or terminate a faulty electrical pathway from sections of the hearts of those who are prone to developing cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Radiofrequency ablation uses heat energy which is generated by high-frequency vibrations which leads to disruption of the cardiac tissue surrounding the pulmonary veins, which also results in electrical isolation of the pulmonary veins, the endpoint of an AF ablation procedure.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), also called fulguration, is a medical procedure in which part of the electrical conduction system of the heart, tumor or other dysfunctional tissue is ablated using the heat generated from medium frequency alternating current (in the range of 350–500 kHz). A Cardiac Ablation is a procedure where catheters are placed in the heart and radio frequency (RF) energy is delivered through the catheter to abnormal heart tissue that is causing an irregular heartbeat.

Catheter ablation is used to treat abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) when medicines are not tolerated or effective. Medicines help to control the abnormal heart tissue that causes arrhythmias. Catheter ablation destroys the tissue. Catheter ablation is a low-risk procedure that is … Hi I underwent RF Ablation for erratic and sometiimes fast heart rate.

This study used heart rate variability (HRV) to evaluate the effects of focal PVs ablation on autonomic function. RF energy is generated at a frequency of 500–1000 KHz and transmitted between the catheter tip and an electrode patch positioned on the skin. The maximum amount of resistive energy occurs within approximately 2 mm of the catheter tip and is either transmitted to the endocardial surface of the heart or the blood. Performed through a standard sternotomy and using the heart-lung bypass machine, these operations were designed to surgically interrupt the "reentrant" electrical pathways found in atrial wall tissue that cause atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.

Those who have had atrial fib going on for several years also have a reduced chance of success, even if there isn’t underlying heart disease affecting them. Se hela listan på academic.oup.com A special machine, called a generator, sends energy through the ablation catheter to your heart. The energy modifies, via heating, or less commonly, freezing, small areas of heart tissue where abnormal heartbeats may cause an arrhythmia to start. Radiofrequency (RF) energy usually is used for catheter ablation.
